Women deluge hotline in probe of gynecologist

Baltimore police say hundreds of women have called a hotline set up by Johns Hopkins hospital for patients of a gynecologist suspected of secretly recording exams and later killing himself.

Dr. Nikita Levy, 54, was found dead in his Maryland home on Monday. Police and Johns Hopkins have said he committed suicide. The Baltimore Sun reports he suffocated himself using helium gas.

Baltimore police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said Wednesday that investigators have found "a multitude of multimedia" as evidence.

Johns Hopkins said in a statement on its website that officials began investigating Levy after an employee reported that he had been taking pictures and videos of his patients. The noted hospital says it told police and fired Levy on Feb. 8.

Guglielmi says investigators, including federal, are trying to see if anyone else was involved and if the recordings have been posted to the Internet or sold.

You beat me to it. My thoughts exactly. Pervert!!! I can't say I feel bad he has offed himself. Clearly his has done a lot of damage to some/many of his patients.

Any male doctor I've ever seen has a female nurse or assistant in the room once I've had to undress.

Does it seem a little odd to use the word "probe" in the headline about a gynecologist, or is it just me.

So much for using the word "alleged" in the article...

Yeah, because an innocent person would commit suicide. Only the guilty need to lawyer up, innocent people don't. Only the guilty decide to end it before going to court, innocent people don't.

Has anyone stopped to think that he may have been recording his examinations to avoid a malpractice lawsuit. There are some dingy women out there who might say the doctor raped or fondled them inappropriately during an exam

It's always bothered me why a man would spend 6 years in graduate school just so he can look up a woman's vagina and then record it as well? Does not make any sense. I don't think he was recording his sessions for sexual pleasure. Think about it!

It is estimated that up to 5% of the convicted population currently in prison are innocent. Keep that in mind if you ever are in a position where a lawyer might be needed.

Auzziegirl, it really doesn't matter what his reasons were. He recorded women in vulnerable, exposed situations without their consent. Whether he used it to insure against false claims or used it for perverse pleasure is irrelevant. He violated their rights.

Auzzie - isnt that what having a nurse in the office is supposed to prevent?

maybe to make it less pervy he could have had the female nurse record it for him, ya know...so he's not seen to be a perv with a hidden camera.

But let's take one more logic leap shall we?

Let's assume he DID record the sessions to prevent lawsuits.

Why wouldnt you inform your patients they are being recorded?

Because it might seem pervy, eh?

So much for the Enlightenment. I'm guessing you're a fellow American, as you seem delighted by the idea of another human being suffering a painful death for non-injurious crimes that he's only alleged to have committed.

If the world ever brings our empire to justice, which history shows it inevitably will, let's hope the relevant authorities don't share your paleolithic concept of justice.

Which is why I always see female OB/GYNs. Seriously. What makes a guy decide to be a GYN in the first place? I just can't believe that at some point, when a male med student in his 20s is deciding what to specialize in, that the thought of examining nude females on a daily basis doesn't appeal more to his libido than to his desire to serve humankind. It certainly did to this jerk.

I certainly cannot speak for male OB/GYN's, but I know that the female body as a machine fascinates me, all the systems that we guys don't have and the abilities to procreate, just from a non-sexual perspective are all fascinating. I suspect that I am not the only one who sees the female and doesn't just think with the small head.

My mother had a male OB/GYN and she said he was a good doctor (now retired).. He also delivered me via c-section.. There's nothing wrong with male doctors. When my sister was pregnant and had to get checked "there" it was two female nurses and a female doctor.. It just felt weird seeing them all stare at my sister's cooch - the nurses weren't even doing anything, they just were- looking at it- ick! I thought they were judging her or something..

I have had a couple of male ob/gyns and they were very professional, courteous and kind. They also had female nurses in the examining room while they conducted any tests like pap smears to prevent things like this from happening. At no time did I feel unsafe, violated or concerned.

Perverts come in all races, colors, and genders anyway. Why label ALL male doctors as potential sexual predators? Stop generalizing.

I have never had a male OB/GYN - I see my family doctor (who is female) for my pap.

But Kat has a valid point. It's not like her "wondering" is misplaced, there's a reason female nurses have to be in the room when a male is examining a patient, far too many have proven the reasons why they went into this specific profession - so they could sexually abuse women.

I see a lot of women say they have male gynos and everything is fine, they do a great job.

Would you feel the same way if you knew that when they got home at night, they jerked off to the memory of your exam?

                  Probably not...just saying.

Historically, men were more educated than women and had all the advantages, which are diminishing as we speak. Of course, educated women even today support males in the field for various reasons, but if they have even an ounce of libido, they are naturally turned on at times. They just keep it in their pants mostly.

I read what these women say about what a great doctor he was, that they took their daughters to him and he was wonderful with them, etc. It's just sickening. One woman didn't go back because she found him "aggressive" when he called her at home asking why she cancelled her appointment. What a sicko.

IF he was recording exams purely for protection against malpractice, don't you think he would have been up front about it and had the patient sign an agreement form before any exam took place? The fact that recording was done SECRETLY screams perversion. Besides, I seriously doubt any court would have allowed such secretly obtained "evidence" to be used in any malpractice suit.

Try to understand in the easiest way possible that for every individual with a sexual addiction of some sort, there are thousands practicing on the up and up. Trying to take the sex out of the treatment of the vagina and uterus can be very difficult for some, but listen: there are those gifted to do so better than the rest of us, and many of them happen to be men. Answer your question?
