Diamond Pet Foods is expanding a voluntary recall to include puppy food over possible salmonella contamination, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
The latest recall, announced Monday, covers Diamond Puppy Formula dry dog food manufactured by Diamond Pet Foods in Gaston, S.C. The puppy food was distributed in the following 12 states: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.
This is the third voluntary recall for the company this month. On April 6, the company recalled Diamond Naturals Lamb & Rice dry dog food made over possible salmonella contamination. On April 26, the company expanded the recall to its Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover’s Soul Adult Light formula dry dog food.
So far, no dog illnesses have been reported, the FDA said.
Pets infected with salmonella can become lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever and vomiting, according to the FDA. Infected pets can also pass the illness on to other animals or humans. Pet owners also can contract the illness from handling contaminated pet products, especially if they have not thoroughly washed their hands after handling the pet food.

This is the same pet food company that in December 2005 recalled pet food made with corn contaminated by aflatoxin, which is particularly gnarly stuff . . .
http://www.fda.gov/Safety/Recalls/ArchiveRecalls/2005/ucm111929.htm
One of the local veterinarians at the time explained that this type of event is caused soley by sneaky weaseling and that there is no excuse for it . . .
Corn and other grains easily become contaminated with aflatoxins when the grains are wet or stored in humid conditions, and when aflatoxins are present in the food supply--human or pet--it is the direct consequence of improper quality control, storage, and in some instances the result of attempting to mix contaminated ingredients with uncontaminated ingredients based on the patently bad premise that a little bit of contaminated ingredients will not be detected . . .
This happened in the human food chain recently with Snokist Growers applesauce, but it involved mycotoxins rather than aflatoxins, where some of the contaminated applesauce was shipped to schools for their lunch programs and other batches of the contaminated applesauce were shipped to baby food manufacturers, really . . .

Really! :-o
P. S. Much to their great credit, the baby food manufacturers rejected the contaminated bags of applesauce . . .
stop the china imports few others are buying this trash, most countries are self sustaining. we just roll the dice with everything
I'm sick of all of the China imports. Hard to find something that isn't. Blue Diamond is a quality dog food not some cheapo brand.
What ever happened to "Gravy Train?" It was the only dog food on the pet food aisle of the grocery store and there was never recalls.
The FDA did not issue a recall, the company did. Mold grows on everything in humid climates - not just corn. These products are not from China. And, Gravy Train had its last recall in March, 2007.
2 months ago I bought the chicken and rice dog food all 3 of my dogs got sick.I contacted Diamond and am still waiting for their so called vet to call me back about this issue. When I took my dogs to the vet he said it was the dog food, $400 in vet bills. Now more recalls and the plant is shut down and should stay that way.
people can you read, the company is right here in the U.S., right here in South Carolina. China is not to blame for all things wrong in this world. 9 times our of 10 its our fault. But that is just not the American way anymore i quess, blame it on someone else.
