I really have mixed feelings about this type of therapy. On the one hand, it's extremely gratifying to think that these sick babies can be helped to live a normal life. On the other hand, they have a terrible genetic mutation that they may now be able to pass on to their offspring. If there was some way to actually correct the genetic defect, even just in the germ line, it would be completely win-win. As it is, I'm really happy for the kids and their parents. Not sure what this kind of therapy means for the future of the human species, if we're moving toward a state where a greater and greater proportion of people will be dependent on medical intervention just to survive. So much for natural selection.
