Subscribe to RSSA government panel wants young boys as well as girls to get the controversial HPV vaccine, in part to prevent them from spreading the sexually transmitted virus to girls.
Experts say the HPV vaccine could protect boys against genital warts and some kinds of cancers. But they also say vaccinating 11- and 12-year old boys could help prevent them from spreading the human papilloma virus to girls.

I am not so sure why this vaccine causes such controversy, I guess because it is a sexually transmitted virus. I do know that one day all of our kids are going to have sex so, I want my kids protected from this. Just like I want them protected from polio.
If you plan to gamble with your kids' lives, at least be informed about it. Do your homework and find out the chances of your child being killed or severely injured by these "safe" vaccines that have been banned in other countries do to deaths and injuries. If you are one of those that chooses to vaccinate your kids, at least make sure you know what you are getting yourself into. Your decision to vaccinate your child could result in a lifetime of caring for a suddenly "inexplicably" severely handicapped or mentally challenged child. Many parents have found themselves in this situation, all coincidentally following a round of vaccinations. GET INFORMED! Then, if you still feel it is in your child's best interest.......
It's official. Pharmaceutical companies now OWN the vaccinating arm of our government. They ARE the government. It's a revolving door.
You should look at the Texas controversy with Gov Perry. He did an executive order to mandate it to school girls at an age that most aren't sexually active. The funny thing about it was the timing made it so these girls would need a booster for the HPV vaccine when most are consider to become sexually active. I use to do biochemical research and now am a dentist. I find it Ironic the number of people that fight against fluoride in the water but have no problems injecting dead virus into their children. I just proves to me that people are to trusting of the media on these matters.

Could it be that doctors looked at the science and concluded that boys getting the vaccine was the best for the health of society? Does everything have to be a vast corrupt conspiracy? Genital warts are not fun, nor is it something that most teens and youth discuss before sex. Giving your kids the vaccine will help protect them from this lifetime virus.
Side effects from vaccines are over blown, if they were substantial they wouldn't be telling you to get your kids vaccinated.

This is in plain view. HPV is vaccine marketing 101 on how to bring a vaccine to market. The politics, the dirty science, the pharmaceutical/government collusion, the scaremongerging, propaganda education awareness campaigns, downplaying of side effects. This one has it all.

People who don't believe in vaccines are the same people who don't 'believe' in science. I have no patience for people who live 200 years ago in their mind.
But as dangerous as it is to my kid when someone else doesn't vaccinate theirs, it is much worse for their kid. So there is really no revenge or anger to even take out on these people who harm their own children by not getting them vaccinated. Their kids will suffer more, and they live in a world so cynical as to not believe in science, they live in a prison of their own mind, all the time while thinking they know something. Sad, really. what they don't tell you is is also helps protect againts oral cancer . yes you read this right Oral Cancer. check it out with your denist or dental hygenist. Boys and girls will be protected from some of the same HPV virus that cause the cervical cancers . Oral cancer doesn't care what sex you are.

Sure the former director of the CDC is now the head of the vaccination division at Merck. Her name is Julie Gerberding and she's about as big of a scumbag as you can have. But Merck and the CDC are full of people like her that go back and forth. While working at the CDC directors take consulting fees (aka bribes) from Merck and other pharmaceuticals to do what they want. This is how the industry works. So when you read this article you should realize the "Panel" is full of salesmen, not scientist doing honest research looking out for the good of the country. Over 40,000 girls have been injured or killed by Gardasil so far, and those are just the ones reported in America (VAERS estimates less than 1% are reported) So around 4,000,000 have actually been injured or killed so far.

I suspect that there is a HUGE amount of lobbying going on as to trying to get the government to "mandate" or recommend a vaccine.... If you have a little known vaccine and you can get the government to mandate that every kid have it, then you can score billions. Perhaps I am too cynical, but I've seen more things driven by money than by science. I suspect that somewhere behind this (and other) vaccines, there are well connected donors pocketing millions of dollars, all in the name of helping humanity.
Derek, no one doesn't believe in vaccines, obviously they exist. The issue is that they do not work and are not safe. SCIENCE involves reading actual studies and research, NOT reading sales pamphlets. Those that are against vaccines are the few that have read actual vaccine studies. If you find a doctor selling you vaccines ask them to point you to a study showing they are safe and effective (they can't). If you yourself are so convinced vaccines are scientifically proven to work...shouldn't you have actually read studies before repeating the claims of others? You end up looking foolish to simply repeat sales pitches having done no homework yourself. That's how you get duped into thinking you're somehow following science when you haven't studied any science yourself. You're the same type of person that 50 years ago would have believed smoking is good for you and doesn't cause lung cancer because as the sales pitches and doctors said "science says so" yet it was the same fraudulent science that vaccines are based on today. MY point being, read actual scientific studies! Don't simply repeat sales pitches as though they are fact when you're done no actual reading yourself.

2) None of the adverse reactions on VAERS are definitively linked to the shots.
3) You still haven't shown direct evidence of a conspiracy. You only provided innuendo.

I don't know enough yet about this HPV for boys.. My daughter (now 21) received it when she was 15.. I will have to read up on it, but as with other vaccines my children get what is recommended by our pediatrician.
For those of you talking about the "Big" Conspiracy and lobbyists getting the government to mandate this vaccine, Do you think thatthe lobbyists are the people that have to have Genital Warts BURNED off, or maybe it is the women who are now infertile, or maybe the scores of people who were unknowingly infected with HPV that are just waiting in fear of getting cancer, warts or being infertile.... Or maybe just maybe... the lobbyists are the cancer patients that are dead or dying as the result of HPV.
It seems that we have been too successful in vaccinating our children. In today's world parents do not have memories of their childhood friends getting, becoming disabled or dying from Polio, Measles, Rubella, or Small Pox. Even Chicken Pox can be deadly. Herd immunity only really works when the only kids not getting vaccinated are the kids that are allergic to them. The larger the proportion of kids that are not vaccinated in an area.... the bigger the outbreaks. The kicker is that about 90% of the kids infected during these outbreaks will be unvaccinated. Whether a person agrees with vaccinating or not, these are the facts.
It is the same vaccine, it just means that your son will not be spreading this virus to another, back and forth transmission will not longer be a problem if all are vaccinated at the recommended age. It is commonsense that both sexes should be vaccinated to prevent transmission of the disease. If you were comfortable with giving your daughter this vaccine then your son should be no different.
You want to do it before they are having sex. It prevents a common disease. What is wrong with that?>
I don't have a problem with a vaccine per se, but I no longer trust big pharma. My questions would be who stands to make the most money if this is mandated? Is this vaccine under patent? Is there only one company who is going to make oodles and oodles with a mandate? Or is this something that several companies can manufacture and make available to keep prices down? What exactly does this vaccine prevent and NOT prevent? There are many different types of HPV, it is my understanding that this prevents 3 of them. What are the risks?
Do any of you anti-vaccine people have any real proof of your claims? Please, just cite some credible research that backs up your point of view. Hell, just give me a credible source that can pass the barometer of skeptical scrutiny! Not having facts and proof of your claims is the same as having an invalid point of view. A point of view cooked up in a fantasy you had inside your head that you haven't really tested against reality.
You know what the real soft kill method probably is? Convincing people to allow themselves to be killed by vaccine-preventable diseases! Don't believe me? Oh, and if you want to "follow the money" in hopes of uncovering a conflict of interest that brings the results of vaccine studies into question, then go ahead. You'll find that not only are vaccines the least profitable product produced by drug companies, but you'll also see that the non-profit groups who independantly verify the veracity and safety of vaccines don't get kickbacks from "Big Pharma".

Allen - the virus causes disease symptoms mostly in girls so that's the reason for the phrasing. The biggest risk to boys is from anal sex- caused by either a penis or another phallic object contaminated with the virus. Certainly boys can get this virus in their anus from girls, but this is not likely the main direction of disease causing spread of the pathogen. Thus why boys spreading to girls is the main concern.
I disagree that anal cancer should be less emphasized, while half the rate as cervical, it is certainly not negligible and reason enough for boys to be vaccinated.
Mac: You can't prove a negative. The onus of proving a link between vaccines and those adverse effects is on people who claim the links exist. If you think X causes Y, then you need to prove it. No one has to prove X doesn't cause Y.
EmilyinIowa - The primary reason for boys to get the vaccination is not to prevent contracting the HPV disease from anal sex. I don't know where that came from.

keith-1135394 you make some really flawed points. You want proof that vaccines work check the data on polio, smallpox, and TB, specifically the number of new cases 10 years after government mandated vaccination. While TB has never been completed eradicated new cases were lowered substantially.
Scientists had linked HPV to 27 different forms of cancer nearly 18 yrs before the first HPV vaccine was introduced. While you may think both yourself and your children are above risk, the 150,000 + who die every year from HPV related cancer disagree.

Does any of you Pro Vaccinate anything with everything VAccinators want to take a stab at how long this vaccine actually lasts? It's pretty important data. Seems that the researchers who worked on this gem don't know. Maybe some internet bloggers can fill them in. Tell them how many painful, $365 shots they'll need for life for a virus that is self limiting in over 90% of the cases.
I'd also like to hear the twisted on ethics on propagandizing little boys parent's they need vaccinate in order to hypothetically protect little girls. Please elaborate on the individual risk to benefit ratio. Also let them know what the odds of their little boy's penis falling off from this virus is if he is not gay. And what are the Absolute odds even if he is gay. Robert: You constantly hit this argument. Not everyone gets this virus, so why bother with a shot? Measles mortality was already dropping, so why bother with a shot? You might need to get more than one painful jab in the arm in your life, so why bother with a shot?
Why? Because people want to improve their standard of living. People want to live healthier lives. People don't like getting sick. If you can get a jab in the arm and prevent a disease, I see that as progress. If you're happy with people getting illnesses that can be prevented easily, fine. But that's craziness if you ask me.

This virus is the common cold of STD's. Most people clear it and never knew they had it. It is considered the most painful vaccine in the history of vaccines. It's also the most expensive. Example: There is currently no body of evidence that positively links vaccines to sterility, mental retardation, or autism. Second, you have to debunk false positives, in this case the false positive association of vaccination with these alleged disorders. Case in point, the only study that positively linked vaccines to autism as a cause, published by Andrew Wakefield in the Lancet in 1998, was marred by malpractice and a conflict of interest involving a lawyer representing a couple suing a vaccine company. What the @!$%# is the problem with the government wanting to provide for a healthy populace? In order to do this the government needs the help of companies that develop vaccines, such as Merck. The government is the consumer and Merck is the seller. It just so happens that the government has a rigorous process that the seller must go through before the government will allow the use of the seller's product. It's called the FDA. Why should it be a problem that the FDA works with Pharma companies to perfect their products? Why is it a conspiracy? Merck doesn't bribe the FDA. They may send lobyists to Washington, but the FDA isn't run by any elected officials. Why should it be a problem for former employees of Merck to work for the FDA and vice versa? It takes a knowledge of both worlds and how they function to get good drugs through the process of validation. Having people who have been on both sides is an asset to this process. Don't you think that car manufacturers have similar relationships with certain agencies that oversee their products, or that energy companies have employees that cross over from the EPA to help them on their projects? I suggest that many of you are completely ignorant of how the process of validation works and that is why you entertain these conspiracies.
There never was a mandate in Texas. It was simply called a mandate, but you could always opt out. Perry thought it was important enough to bring this vaccine to his people and he worked with Merck to make it happen. That's how all things get done in our world. Somebody builds a better mouse trap and they advertise it around. They try to make a deal with a governor/mayor/whatever to use the mousetrap in their jurisdiction. If they make a convincing sell the deal will be struck. Money will change hands. Welcome to America. Perry's deal was no more conspiratorial than that. (My god, I just defended Rick Perry!)
Merck holds the patent because they invented it - so they absolutely should make the profits from it until the patent runs out. When the patent runs out there will be dozens of manufacturing companies that will produce it cheaply. But those manufacturers don't do research. They don't invent anything. Merck takes its earnings and re-deploys them towards other research such as new antibiotics, vaccines, and other medicines. Nobody else does this except Pharma. Nobody. They provide a service to our country and world. It's not like they are out there infecting people and then gouging them with the cost of the cure. These diseases have existed forever, but now we can eradicate them. I think their profits are worth it - we need companies like Merck.
You people make it sound as though a newly invented product should be given away for free. Did Steve Jobs give away his iPhone for free? No. But he funnelled the profits into even more amazing technologies. Now, after years have gone by, everyone has a smartphone, a tablet, a laptop. Now they are cheap. The notions that vaccines cause retardation or developmental abnormalities was first put forth by a now discredited doctor who was hired by lawyers to bring a suit against a drug company. Look at the VAERS reports from the CDC. Deaths related to the HPV vaccine are very rare. They are even more rare in boys.

To insist there've been wide spread deaths that somehow no one knows about is just ludicrous and you do your claims no good with such nonsense. Vaccines are significantly more dangerous than most drugs. That said, deaths/injuries due to vaccines are very low.
It's a "break a few eggs" approach that we've adopted. In general, a vaccinated population is healthier, so we accept the risk to those who experience side effects.

You're right, Karen. Follow the money, and you can see why it is being pushed. This is a dangerous vaccine and I would not vaccinate a daughter or a son. Very serious side effects have been reported but kept quiet by big pharma.
HPV is really the money maker here. Once you have a abnormal pap you get called back in to have another pap to make sure the sample was ok. Once that one comes back along with your test for HPV if it wasn't run with the first one they will want to do a colposcopy; after that one they will schedule you for the leep procedure in which they take layers of your cervix off. That of course also goes to the lab. Now you have to have your follow up appointment. Then you go on what I like to call "The three month plan", you have to have a pap every three months for a year. If you make it through the year with clear paps you will go on the 6 month plan for a year. And if you clear that then you can go back to yearly paps along with the fear of it coming back, passing it on and what’s it done to your fertility. And thats if you only have abnormal cells, not yet cancer.

If this vaccine was available when I was growing up and my mother didn't get it for me, I would be really pissed at her. I have one of the strains the shot protects against. I also have three friends that have gone though all this, and one of them currently has cervical cancer.
I got the shot to protect me against the other ones and the shot only have me a slightly sore arm, no worse than any other shot I have gotten. The procedures are much worse that some shot and way more expensive.

And you can't sue the vaccine manufacturer they lobbied the government to get legal immunity in this country (the only industry that has that). If you look at the research out there, over 70% of girls/women get infected with HPV after their first one or two partners. You do not need to be sexually promiscuous to get infected with HPV. It is very common in young people today. You and your wife were one of the exceptions. Male vaccination will help stop the spread of HPV, and could save many women's lives who would have died of cervical cancer. If only women get vaccinated, HPV is going to continue to spread throughout our population due to its presence in the male population. Also, do you research. First off, I am a female under 30 who got the Gardisil shots when I was a teenager, with no side effects. All of my friends except one received the vaccine as well. None of us receiving the vaccine had any type of side effects other than a sore spot where the injections went in. The one who did not receive the vaccine had parents that were devout Catholics and felt that vaccines were evil, and that this one in particular promoted promiscuity.
I now have one friend from that group who has cervical cancer. . . the one who did NOT get the vaccine. She was a virgin until her wedding night. Her now-husband wasn't. HPV can only be vaccinated for before it is caught, which means before they start having sex. Your sons are going to start having sex in the next 0-5 years. There is a very very large chance that they will catch one of the strains if they have unprotected sex (even if it is just once). Once they have HPV, it can lay dormant for decades. Then suddenly 20 years down the road their wives come home from the doctors crying because they have cancer - all because you did not want to give your son the vaccine at 12.
My best friend is currently in chemo for her HPV caused cervical and uterine cancer - the cancer is winning. This is her second round with having cervical cancer treatment in 10 years. The first time she was 27 and married. She got it (strain 16) her first husband who had carried it for >8 years. This time she is 37 and got it (strain 18) from her second husband, who has carried it for >6 years. It is not a question of protecting yours son from an STD now, it is a question of protecting your son and his future wife from a death sentence later.

Every day I treat men in their 30's for head and neck cancer that contracted HPV from oral sex. Every single one of them is suffering from the treatments to save their life. I have already had my son vaccinated. I have a strain of HPV that causes cancer and I've had multiple procedures to prevent cancer. I have the strain of HPV that causes cancer as I found out during my yearly visit to the lady doctor. Increasing the frequency of Paps are a procedure. A colposcopy which I had is another procedure I had to under go. They arent procedures for prevention they are procedures for early detection.

I'am not promiscuious my husband has been dead almost 7 yrs now and I have been with noone. We were only married 21 months when he passed. The only thing I can think of is it was the man previous that I had been engaged to. Caught him in bed with another woman. My doctor told me this virus can lay dormate in your body for years. I don't know if its true or not but I was also told it can be heridtary not sure if anyone in the family has this. Like you growing up we didn't have this vaccine. But make sure you have those pap smears caught my cancer early in Stage One.

If your daughter is already vaccinated against HPV, won't it make no difference to her whether her sexual partner has been vaccinated or not? She has already protected herself, hasn't she?
That said, I would certainly encourage her to request that any sexual partner get tested for other STD's, especial HIV, prior to having condom-free sex. Tell her that if someone is the quality kind of person worth having a relationship with, they will be willing to do this for her. I was 16 when I got HPV... go ahead and call me stupid because I was but I can't be the only one guilty of this. I listened but not enough to know how serious this was getting. I got the shot after the fact when I was 17 after reading up on the shot it cost me nothing to get it. 5 years later is when I found out I had it and got serveral tests done. Since then I am concerned about me having HPV and had to tell my partner what I had for he now has it too. They say it goes away in people my age evetually, however waiting whether or not I will be able to have kids in the future I dont think this is enough. My daughter got deathly sick after one shot of Gardasil. If I knew then what I know now she would never have gotten that poison. If you looked into the strains that the shot covers, it is actually four. It protects agains HPV16/18 (which account for ~75% of cervical cancers) and HPV6/11 (which account for 90% of warts).

You say your daughter got sick - with what? what symptoms? how long did it last? did it have any permanent effects? Probably not, as that would have strongly supported your argument and would definitely be something you mentioned (you don't say my daughter was sick but leave out the 'and then she died' part). And the number of women who died is 20. Which is terrible. But how many people die of cancer that can be prevented from this vaccine?
Your child does not have to be sexually promiscuous to get HPV - she only needs to sleep with ONE person who has it. So even if she is a virgin on her wedding night and her husband only slept with one other women before their wedding night, he could still pass it on to her. Also, HPV can lie dormant in your body for years, so it is very possible he would have no idea he had it or passed it on.
When he has throat cancer and she has cervical cancer and both are going through chemo and radiation (never mind the potential for death) do you think she'll thank you for not getting the vaccine because it made her temporarily sick as a child??? When is the last time you heard of some child being disfigured for life from polio or a family burying three children due to scarlet fever? That is only a thing of the past because of vaccines. Scientists have done clinical safety studies on these vaccines and shown that they are relatively safe. The CDC continues to monitor their safety and show few adverse side effects.
So I suggest you read the real scientific evidence out there and learn how to assess risk like a rational person.

This year was the largest measles outbreak in over 15 years and the largest whooping cough outbreak in 55 YEARS thanks to parents who make a decision based on fear.

I really don't care who profits from the vaccine, as long as it works. Sorry, but I'd rather pay "Big Pharm" the $360.00 vaccine cost (I believe my insurance covered my doses though) to prevent contracting HPV.
As far as 71 people supposedly dying. . . I'm with Calvn, I'll take that risk. I'm sure that that's a vast overestimate anyway, you'd be surprised how many people try to blame a drug or a doctor in order to sue, even if the death wasn't caused by the drug.
